Dark Age of Camelot macros

Dark Age of Camelot builds its macros straight onto the quickbar. /macro turns any command into a clickable icon, /qbind maps a key to a quickbar slot, and the movement commands that realm-versus-realm combat runs on — /stick, /face, /assist — were designed to be macroed from the start. It is a small system, but it is aimed precisely at what an eight-player group actually needs.

How macros work in DAoC

Typing /macro with a name and a command creates a labelled quickbar icon that runs that command. /qbind maps a keyboard key to a quickbar page and slot, so a macro can be fired without ever clicking it.

Setting one up

  1. Type /macro NAME command to create an icon labelled NAME on your first free quickbar slot.
  2. Drag the icon wherever you want it on your quickbars.
  3. Bind a key to that slot with /qbind, which takes a page, a slot and a bar number.
  4. Use /qbar to switch which quickbar page is showing.
  5. Macros save with your character, so a layout survives between sessions.

Rules and limits

  • A macro holds a single command. There is no separator for chaining several commands together.
  • Macros cannot fire spells or styles directly — those go on the quickbar as abilities, not as macro text.
  • The macro name is limited to a few characters, because it has to fit on a quickbar icon.
  • /stick keeps you attached to a target but breaks the moment you press a movement key.
  • Realm-versus-realm combat is where these matter most, and the useful ones are all targeting and movement rather than damage.

23 macros

  • IN
/macro Call /g Opening on my target now

Calls the target you are opening on so a stealth group lands its openers on the same person. Coordinated assassin openers delete a target instantly.

  • DA
    /macro Siege /groundassist Siegeleader

Copies the ground target of a named player so a whole line of catapults fires at the same spot. This is how organised keep sieges actually work.

  • DA
    /macro MA /assist Mainassist

Targets a named player and picks up whatever they are attacking. Eight-player groups in the frontier live on this, because focus fire wins fights.

  • BA
/macro Mez /g MEZ IS DOWN - no damage

Hibernia's version of the mesmerise call. Same principle — the group has to know to stop swinging the instant it lands.

  • DA
    /qbind 1 2 2

Maps a keyboard key to a specific quickbar page and slot, which is how a macro gets fired without clicking it. The three numbers are page, slot and bar.

  • DA
/gc Keep is under attack at Caer Benowyc
    /g Regroup at the milegate

DAoC separates guild chat, group chat and the realm-wide advice channel. /gc is guild, /g is group, and knowing them saves fumbling in a fight.

  • DA
    /realm

Prints your realm rank and points. Realm rank is the long-term progression that keeps people in the frontier for years, so people check it often.

  • DA
    /macro Stick /stick

Makes a labelled icon on your first free quickbar slot that runs the command after the name. The name has to be short because it has to fit on the icon.

  • DA
    /macro Face /face

Instantly turns your character to face whatever you have selected. Essential for casters, who cannot cast at something they are not facing.

  • DA
    /who cleric 45 50

Lists players online, filterable by class and level range. The standard way to find a healer for a frontier group.

  • DA
/macro Inc /g Incoming enemy group!

Posts a fixed message to your group. Keep one per common call — incoming, mez, speed — because typing them out in a fight is not realistic.

  • HE
/macro Mez /g Mez landed, hold damage

Midgard puts area mesmerise on its primary healer, which makes this call doubly important — the same person is also keeping everyone alive.
